On March 8, International Women's Day, we held a meaningful concert in Malatya as Güzel İşler Fabrikası (GİF). In our GİF Music Sufi Choir concert held at the Malatya Congress and Culture Center, we brought together the spiritual atmosphere of the month of Ramadan with selected works of Sufi music.
Unforgettable Concert in Malatya by GİF Sufi Choir
Our choir, led by our instructor Bircan Eroğlu, who gives vocal lessons in Vezneciler, presented a repertoire prepared with the effort and dedication of our students to the audience in Malatya. Throughout our lessons, we worked on many pieces in the Hicaz, Sûznak, Uşşak, and Hüseyni modes; by forming a strong team with our students who play instruments, we reinterpreted the rich heritage of Sufi music.
During this process, we not only performed hymns and Sufi works; we also commemorated important figures of the Sufi tradition, drew from the tradition, and made efforts to keep many pieces that were on the verge of being forgotten alive by reinterpreting them. We experienced the joy of sharing this accumulation with our audience at our concert in Malatya.
In the repertoire we prepared specifically for the month of Ramadan, we included hymns and Sufi works that the community is familiar with. Throughout the concert, with pieces that both provided peace and allowed the audience to participate, we shared the meaning of being together with women on the evening of March 8 accompanied by music. Thus, we created an atmosphere suitable for the spirit of Ramadan and held a special cultural-art meeting that touched hearts in Malatya.
This special concert we held in Malatya on the occasion of International Women's Day once again highlighted the unifying power of art and the deep meaning carried by our music, which is nourished by tradition.
