We Are on the Ground as TÜRGEV to Heal Our Wounds
After the earthquake that affected our southern provinces, we are on the ground as TÜRGEV. We believe that by joining hands, we will heal the wounds of this historic disaster. With this belief and spirit of solidarity, we are mobilizing all our resources. As of February 10, 2023, our staff, students, and volunteers—working tirelessly—have completed the following activities in the earthquake zone and at volunteer centers. In the coming period, we will continue our efforts without interruption to heal the wounds of our country.
Two fuel tankers were delivered to AFAD in Malatya and Adıyaman to support search and rescue efforts.
A mobile kitchen capable of producing daily meals for 1,000 people was sent to Elbistan, Kahramanmaraş.
Five buses were allocated for the evacuation of earthquake victims in Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adıyaman, and Malatya.
Together with 139 colleagues across Turkey, all our dormitories were prepared to host earthquake victims, and information was shared with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Our Psychological Counseling Center began providing rehabilitation and psychological support services both remotely and on-site for those affected by the earthquake.
20 of our staff members participated directly in relief work in the earthquake zone, while another 20 staff and over 300 volunteers worked on collecting, preparing, packaging, and loading materials bound for the affected areas.
Across Turkey, our dormitories became volunteer centers, working with volunteers to meet the needs of earthquake victims.
The kitchen and sewing workshops of our Kandilli Zekiye Gönenç Secondary Education Dormitory were transformed into production centers to meet the region’s needs, producing long-lasting food and cold-resistant clothing.
For the destroyed Hatay AFAD center, we sent 500 pre-charged power banks, 4 laptops, 2 printers, 5 boxes of A4 paper, and 160 sets of office and stationery supplies.
Additionally, humanitarian aid such as pillows, quilts/blankets, bed linens, socks, electric heaters, clothing for women, men, and children, plastic tableware, shoes, various food items, baby formula, boxes of water and milk, diapers, wet wipes, and hygiene products were delivered to the region.
