Attorney Arzu Akalın, who had served as Chairwoman of the TÜRGEV Board of Directors since 2014, has handed over her position to Fatmanur Altun. Leadership Transition at TÜRGEV
Attorney Arzu Akalın, who had served as Chairwoman of the TÜRGEV Board of Directors since 2014, has handed over her position to Fatmanur Altun.
Akalın will continue her involvement with the foundation as a Member of the TÜRGEV General Assembly as of February 7, 2018, in order to focus on her academic work.
At the Ordinary General Assembly Meeting, where the handover ceremony took place, Fatmanur Altun officially assumed the role of Chairwoman of the TÜRGEV Board of Directors.
Born in Kocaeli in 1979, Fatmanur Altun completed her undergraduate studies in Sociology at the Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University. Between 2002 and 2003, she conducted various research projects in the United States. She earned her master’s degree from Marmara University’s Institute of Middle Eastern and Islamic Countries Studies, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, with a thesis titled “The Role of the Greater Middle East Project Discourse in the Construction of Turkish Nationalism After 2000.”
In 2014, she began her doctoral studies in the same department and completed them in 2018 with her dissertation titled “The ‘Social Benefit’ Approach of Secular and Faith-Based NGOs in Turkey: The Cases of the Association for Supporting Contemporary Life and the Turkey Youth and Education Service Foundation.”
Since 2000, Altun has worked in the publishing sector as a translator and editor. From 2005 to 2010, she served as a section editor at Anlayış magazine, and between 2006 and 2011, she was a columnist for the online news platform Dünya Bülteni. From 2009 to 2012, she served as a senior executive board member in the Istanbul Provincial Organization of the AK Party. Between 2012 and 2016, she was a member of the board of directors of İBB Kültür A.Ş., and since 2015 she has been working at Marmara University. She is currently a faculty member in the Department of Sociology at Marmara University and has published both original and translated works.
In addition to delivering seminars and lectures on various platforms, Altun writes a regular column for Fikriyat newspaper and contributes articles to various other publications.
Alongside her role as Chairwoman of TÜRGEV, she also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of KADEM Foundation. Altun is fluent in English, has advanced proficiency in Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, and is married with four children.
