Ibn Haldun University (IHU) Graduation Ceremony Dedicated to Gazan Students and Academics

12 July 2024

Our foundation’s established Ibn Haldun University held its 6th Graduation Ceremony at its Başakşehir campus. During the ceremony, attended by our Chairwoman Hatice Akıncı Yılmaz, IHU graduates and academics wore badges bearing the names of martyred Gazan students and academics.

Rector Prof. Dr. Atilla Arkan also wore a badge with the name of Prof. Dr. Sufyan Tayeh, the Rector of the Islamic University of Gaza, who was martyred when his home was targeted by Israeli warplanes. The guest of honor, Palestinian-origin Rector of the University of Glasgow, Gassan Abu Sitte, reflected on why the United Nations and other international organizations have long abandoned the Palestinian cause.

Expressing deep appreciation for Türkiye’s strong support and the efforts to maintain education in Gaza, Sitte said they have never lost their belief that the future belongs to them and emphasized that the occupiers are only temporarily present in Palestine. He noted that land, money, and social status can be taken away, but the education received by students can never be stolen. Abu Sitte stressed that the education given by Ibn Haldun University is a lifelong treasure for its graduates.

In her speech, Chairwoman Hatice Akıncı Yılmaz congratulated the graduates for completing their education at such a distinguished institution and thanked those who dedicated their graduation to Gaza for their honorable stance. She stated, “Your voice, breath, and support for our Palestinian brothers and sisters resisting Israeli genocide both locally and internationally reinforces our belief and serves as a wake-up call for humanity.”

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the Palestinian martyrs and the presentation of diplomas to the graduates.
