Our foundation’s flagship project, the Factory of Fine Works (GİF), has now reached the youth of Silopi.
Launched by our foundation in 2022, GİF is a youth initiative designed to help young people discover and develop their academic, social, cultural, and artistic skills. Until now, our GİF campuses have served in Istanbul and Ankara; today, we are proud to bring the GİF brand to benefit the young people of Silopi in Şırnak.
At the launch event in Silopi, our Chairperson, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatmanur Altun, explained the needs the project was designed to address. She shared that, following our field research in Silopi, it became clear that young people in the region—especially girls—were in need of a support center to help them strengthen their academic skills. She announced to the public that, in consideration of local sensitivities, the center will serve exclusively female students, and emphasized that its doors will be fully open to all young women of Silopi. She added that projects aimed at raising educated, qualified women leaders promise, in the long run, a generation that is both sensitive to humanity’s current challenges and committed to producing solutions.
The program continued with our painting workshop students presenting our Chairperson with a painting of Al-Aqsa Mosque they had created themselves, followed by GİF Silopi students reciting the poem “I Saw Al-Aqsa in My Dream.”
The launch was attended by local protocol members, representatives from civil society and public institutions, GİF instructors, participating students, and their families. Alongside the university preparation programs, guests also experienced the painting, sewing, marbling (ebru), and handicraft workshops operating on campus. The event concluded with a piano recital by the students.
As TÜRGEV, we hope that the GİF Silopi campus will be a source of inspiration and hope for the young women of Silopi, and we look forward to the honor and joy of serving our students at this center.
