In the 9th session of our “The Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy” series, we addressed the responsibility of remaining silent within the framework of citizenship literacy from the perspectives of international law and human rights.
27 February 2026
We launched the “The Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy” program series as a holistic awareness initiative structured around 12 different literacy themes. Through this series, we aimed to reflect both our sense of moral responsibility and our educational perspective, to build a lasting ground of collective memory regarding Gaza, and to contribute to young people developing a sense of social responsibility by reading the world with ethical, humane, and critical depth.
Within this scope, we held the 9th session of the series on Thursday, 26 February, between 17:00 and 18:30 at our GIF Safvetipaşa Campus. In the seminar titled “Citizenship Literacy – The Responsibility of Remaining Silent,” we discussed key topics such as international law, human rights, the individual’s civic responsibility, and the right to speak out.
Attorney Yasin Şamlı (President of the 2nd Bar Association) participated as the speaker of the seminar. Throughout the program, we evaluated the individual’s responsibility in the face of global and local developments, the social and legal consequences of remaining silent, and the necessity of active citizenship awareness from a multidimensional perspective. Together with our participants, we conducted an in-depth reading centered on rights, responsibilities, and moral stance.
Through the “The Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy” program series, we continued to pursue our goal of creating a collective memory regarding Gaza, while contributing to the development of a human rights–based, critical, and sensitive perspective among young people.
