TÜRGEV continues its activities in the disaster area during the month of Ramadan, visiting the provinces and districts affected by the earthquake through a different kind of event.
This hospitality brings the most joy to children, giving them unforgettable moments.
Parents are delighted and pleased to watch—and have their children watch—a shadow play they had previously only seen on television.
Atilla Yaprak, the “Hayali” (shadow puppeteer) performing the Karagöz play, confirms this sentiment and explains his journey with shadow puppetry as follows:
“When I was a child, I listened to a performance by master Orhan Kurt and was deeply impressed. My curiosity for Karagöz grew even more, and I started traveling with the master for 25 days to learn how to perform it. My dreams came true. I now do this work with love and believe it is very important to pass this tradition on to future generations. I am very glad that the Karagöz play was included in the Brotherhood Table organization. Being able to touch the hearts of children in the disaster area with Karagöz, make them smile, and pass this tradition on to our future is very precious and important to me.”
Our General Manager, Makbule Çabuk, joined the iftar in İskenderun, which was also attended by Afyonkarahisar Governor Assoc. Prof. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, İskenderun District Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, and Manyas District Governor Koray Çelik. They congratulated our volunteers for participating in such a comprehensive organization and for continuing their activities in the disaster-affected provinces and districts.
We thank the people of Gölbaşı and İskenderun for sharing the blessings of Ramadan with us and look forward to meeting again.
