Supported by the National Agency and coordinated by the Türkiye Youth and Education Service Foundation (TÜRGEV), the Erasmus project titled Traces of the Ancient – North Macedonia Youth Exchange aims to document cultural heritage that is on the verge of disappearing, and to make it publicly accessible by publishing it in digital formats such as documentaries and articles.
In the fourth stage of the project, carried out during the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, we conducted field studies in North Macedonia with 40 participants. Our research took place primarily in Skopje, as well as in Gostivar, Tetovo, Radoviš, Ohrid, and Kičevo. Participants, who had received oral history training and conducted fieldwork, recorded the cultural heritage of Muslim communities in the region and completed their learning process using informal and non-formal educational methods suitable for youth exchange activities.
Project participants also had the opportunity to get to know the work of various institutions active in the region, such as Köprü Association, Maarif Foundation, Ensar Association, TİKA, MATUSITEB, Yunus Emre Institute, and TRT Balkan MK. At the end of the project, Youthpass certificates were presented to the participants.
Carrying out the project in North Macedonia—a country where people from diverse religions and cultures live together—is expected to contribute to the understanding and development of intercultural dialogue.
