The 1st TÜRGEV Academy Student Symposium Successfully Held

The 1st Student Symposium of the TÜRGEV Academy Program (TAP)—a program designed to provide TÜRGEV students with academic-level education beyond their fields of specialization, effectively becoming a second university for them—was held on Sunday, December 1, at SETA Istanbul.

The 1st Student Symposium of the TÜRGEV Academy Program (TAP)—a program designed to provide TÜRGEV students with academic-level education beyond their fields of specialization, effectively becoming a second university for them—was held on Sunday, December 1, at SETA Istanbul.

Supported by distinguished academics, the program offers courses in Islamic Studies and Social Sciences, during which students work on research aligned with their interests throughout the year and prepare their symposium papers. At this event, all participating students successfully presented their findings.

In the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Mahmut Kelpetin addressed the audience and students, outlining the work carried out by the Academy. Following this, TÜRGEV Chairwoman Dr. Fatmanur Altun spoke about why TÜRGEV needed such an academy and the contributions it has made to the foundation.

The first session, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Hikmet Yaman, featured the following presentations:

  • Beyza Nur Erol (Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University) – The Guidance of the Sunnah in Understanding Islam and the Binding Nature of the Prophet’s Actions

  • Nurşen Yüksel (Istanbul Şehir University) – Maqasid al-Sharia

  • Hatice Büşra Sarı (Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University) – The Reflections of Caliph Umar’s Ijtihads on the Present Day

  • Merve Göktaş (Marmara University) – An Evaluation on Whether the Gate of Ijtihad is Closed or Not

  • Nurseda Dayı (Ibn Haldun University) – The Palestinian–Israeli Conflict in the City of Hebron

The second session, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Mahmut Kelpetin, included:

  • Rümeysa Küskü (Marmara University) – The Causes of Reform Movements in Religions: The Case of Reformation and Islamism

  • Rüveyda Yaman (Marmara University) – The Changing Understanding of Religion in the Late Ottoman Period: The Example of Said Halim Pasha

  • Zeynep Sevinç (Marmara University) – Charisma and Leadership: A Sociological Approach

  • Mukadder Kalkan (Marmara University) – The Effects of Hunger and Satiety on Behavior

At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Fatmanur Altun engaged with the students, asking questions about their work and future plans, offering academic advice, and presenting them with symposium participation certificates along with her best wishes for their continued success.
