As TÜRGEV, through the education series titled “The Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy,” which we launched to bring a moral perspective to the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza, we are bringing young people together with knowledge, art, and a sense of ethical responsibility.
19 October 2025
As the Güzel İşler Fabrikası (GİF), through the education series titled “The Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy,” which we launched on 18 October, we aim to empower young people with conscience, knowledge, and a sense of ethical responsibility.
We initiated this program to approach the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza from a different perspective and to pursue the truth amid the information pollution of our time. We believe that Gaza is not merely a geography, but a space where humanity is being tested by conscience.
Rethinking Gaza Across 12 Literacy Areas
Within our education series, we address Gaza through 12 different literacy areas including art, culture, religion, digital media, finance, sustainability, and citizenship. In each session, together with experts in their respective fields, we aim to strengthen young people’s critical thinking, ethical knowledge production, and multidimensional analysis skills.
Our program began in cooperation with the Rami Library and will continue every two weeks on Saturdays at 14.00. The sessions will not only be held in person but will also reach wider audiences through YouTube and podcast broadcasts.
Where Conscience and Knowledge Meet at Rami Library
One of Istanbul’s prominent centers of culture and thought, Rami Library hosts our project with its historic atmosphere and contemporary learning environment. Here, we bring young people together in a setting that encourages the sharing of knowledge and intellectual production.
To Be a Witness to Gaza Is to Be a Witness to the Truth
Through this education series, we aim to equip young people not only with knowledge but also with conscience. To be a witness to Gaza is, at the same time, to be a witness to the truth. We strive to deepen young people’s ways of understanding the world and to nurture them as conscientious and aware individuals.
A Sustainable Learning Model
In the first session of our series, under the theme of Art Literacy, we hosted Neslihan Değirmenci. Our second session will take place on 1 November with researcher and author Emine Çınar under the title “Cultural Literacy: The Culture, Resistance, and Memory of Gaza.”
The “Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy” program will continue until 21 March 2026. With video content to be published after each session, we will create a permanent educational archive. In this way, we aim to go beyond a one time event and establish a sustainable learning model.
