As the Türkiye Youth and Education Service Foundation (TÜRGEV), we held the launch of our project titled “Qur’an Memorization in 75 Days with Choir, Musical Modes, and Meaning-Translation”, implemented in cooperation with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (İZÜ), at the Bağlarbaşı Congress and Cultural Center.

In 2013, following a speech by our President, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the opening ceremony of TÜRGEV Hayriye Cemal Gülbaran Secondary Education Dormitory, our Qur’an memorization program began and has continued uninterrupted for ten years. This year, we enhanced it with an innovative educational method.

Initiated by Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University faculty member Gülsüm Arslan, the method enables those familiar with the Arabic language and Qur’anic recitation to complete memorization in a short time through choir repetition combined with musical modes. The pilot program began this summer at TÜRGEV Kartal Hayriye Cemal Gülbaran Secondary Education Dormitory with sixty participants and was successfully completed. Of these, twenty-five completed their hifz after studying six days a week for eight hours a day. At the ceremony attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safa Koçoğlu, Vice President of the Presidency of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. İbrahim Hilmi Karslı, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University’s Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevdet Acar, TÜRGEV Board Member Esra Albayrak, Istanbul Mufti Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş, and Project Consultant Prof. Dr. Özcan Hıdır certificates were presented to the new hafizes and all project stakeholders.

Our Chairperson, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatmanur Altun, highlighted both the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital age, emphasizing the need to develop new educational methods that meet contemporary needs. She noted that memorizing the Qur’an in choir form with musical modes allows for faster and higher-quality memorization, serving as a remedy for today’s common issues such as lack of focus and quick loss of interest. Altun described this as a turning point for our ongoing memorization programs and announced that the same method would be adopted in the Qur’an memorization programs conducted in our dormitories.
