25 June 2019

With the participation of distinguished educators and academics from across Türkiye, as well as our Chairwoman of the Board Dr. Fatmanur Altun, the “TÜRGEV 2019 Education Workshop” was held.

Organized within the scope of the TÜRGEV 2019–2020 Education Plan to develop educational activities for female students and to implement high-quality, effective education programs, the workshop took place in three sessions. The first session addressed “TÜRGEV 2019–2020 Education Programs,” the second focused on “Interdisciplinary Approaches and Opportunities for Cooperation Between Institutions/Organizations,” and the third covered “Support Services for the Demands and Needs of Youth.”

"TÜRGEV has a mission and a vision."

In her speech at the workshop, Dr. Fatmanur Altun spoke about TÜRGEV’s founding story and its 23 years of successful services for the education of young women, and continued as follows:

“In terms of equal opportunities in education, I believe that accommodation services represent a critical threshold. From past experiences, we have seen that when accommodation services are lacking, there is unfortunately a significant decline in girls’ education. Beyond providing accommodation for female students, TÜRGEV has a very important mission and vision: to raise young people who know themselves, their history, and their goals well; who read, think, question, research, produce, and are entrepreneurial. This mission and vision bring us closer each day to becoming more influential in the field of education. Looking at the work we do at Ibn Haldun University, Palet Schools, EDEP, TURKEN, and in our dormitories, there is a clear direction: the youth model I just described. In our secondary and higher education dormitories, through workshops, club activities, seminars, and academic programs, we strive to advance the model of thoughtful, productive, and inquisitive individuals. We want our young people, these bright minds, to know their own society, address its problems, and ask the right questions inspired by their own philosophical outlook—then pursue those questions. At this very point, we conduct educational activities in our dormitories. The advantage of having physical space allows us to save more time, but we also face a disadvantage: when we address students from all cultural and educational backgrounds in the same way, unfortunately, the educational efforts do not always yield full results. That is why today we have gathered with Türkiye’s esteemed educators and academics to create a better roadmap for the education of our young women. I believe this workshop will be progressive not only for TÜRGEV but for our education community as a whole. I thank you all for your participation.”
