The handcrafted works created by our students at the Şırnak Silopi Secondary Education Girls’ Dormitory throughout the year during their training in the workshops were presented at the Year-End Workshop Exhibition.
Held in Şırnak Silopi, the exhibition opening was attended by Silopi District Governor Sezer Işıktaş, District Director of National Education Bülent Dayanan, Director of Public Education Osman Bilen, TÜRGEV administrators, as well as the students’ families and the people of Silopi.
The exhibition program began with a thank-you speech by student Nurhan Karakuş on behalf of all the students, followed by a recitation of the Qur’an and the viewing of the works produced by the students through their training and creativity.
In the workshops where students engaged with art, they showcased hundreds of works created in various fields: in the painting workshop – painting, stained glass, quilling, mandala, marbling, stone painting; in the arts workshop – filography, wood carving, traditional goat hair tent making, model ship production, copper relief; and in the sewing workshop – handicrafts, jewelry design, recycled newspaper figurines.
Students discover their talents in workshop classes
Teachers who have been by the students’ side throughout their artistic journey did not leave them alone during the exhibition. Calligraphy Teacher Ayfer Açar noted that the students had exceeded expectations in the demanding and meticulous art of calligraphy. Painting Teacher Mehmet Karakurt emphasized the positive impact of art on students’ personal development, stating: “In addition to technical skills, students have been introduced to new art forms, gained fresh perspectives, and we have witnessed their transformation.”
“TÜRGEV means opportunity and future for our girls in Silopi”
Director of Public Education Osman Bilen highlighted TÜRGEV’s role in the education of girls in Silopi, saying: “TÜRGEV has done great things for Silopi. In addition to meeting the accommodation needs of our 96 resident students, they have mobilized all resources to prepare them for the future both materially and spiritually. At the year-end exhibition, we saw the fruits of the workshop activities. Rather than being purely theoretical, these activities provided the students with valuable skills for psychomotor development, hobbies, vocational training, and a broadened vision. Today’s exhibition of hundreds of works is the best proof of TÜRGEV’s presence here. TÜRGEV means opportunity and future for our girls in Silopi; it means carrying our culture, profession, and awareness from our ancestors into the future.”
“Our girls feel like they are in a family environment”
Dormitory Director and Educator Seda Kaya proudly shared her students’ success, noting that both students and their families were very happy with the vocational skills acquired through the workshops. She explained that the girls felt like they were in a family environment while attending classes with their friends and that, by creating new works together, they were developing not only their manual skills but also their souls and imagination.
Open to visitors throughout the day, the exhibition concluded with students taking souvenir photos with their works and friends.
